Recreate J. M. W. Turner in Acrylics

Article text
Tutor: Robert Nelmes

Explore the techniques used by Turner to recreate this masterpiece. With its fast drying time, acrylics give you the opportunity to speed up the process. Using broad brush strokes, scumbling, palette knife, fingers, fine details and the final varnish, you’ll have your own original masterpiece to take home

Using similar pigments and tools, Robert will follow the documented process Turner used, from the initial broad application of paint on a white primed canvas, through the variously applied layers of thick and thin paint, glazes and details carefully applied with the smallest of brushes.

Each student will produce their own version of the painting, with unique texture and effects through experiment, chance and where needed control and consideration.

Date: Saturday 5th October – 10.30am to 4pm

Cost: £65 (includes all materials & equipment)
